Boating in the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park

Out and about by motorboat, sailboat, kayak, stand-up paddling, model boat

The national park is over 80 percent water and is famous for its wealth of fish and water bird species. Endangered animals such as the porpoise or the grey seal find refuge here. What they all have in common is their sensitivity to interference from watercraft. The louder and faster these are, the faster the animals flee - some of them never to be seen again. That is why a regulation limits boating.

A kayak tour offers a pure experience of nature with little disruption. Kayaks, canoes and SUPs are completely forbidden in the Red Zones.

Because nature has priority in the national park,

... activity on the water is restricted by an ordiance issued by the federal Ministry of Transport.

The Red Zones

The Red Zones contain particularly sensitive habitats and are some of the water birds' favourite places. Any incursion by watercraft is prohibited.

The Green Zones

Green Zones have been designated at suitable points to quietly and gently experience nature near the coast. Navigating motorised watercraft is prohibited in these zones. Water sports enthusiasts powered by the wind or their own muscles are allowed here. Paddlers and sailors should be careful not to navigate too close to the reed belts or the birds' resting or breeding areas and not to disturb them. Stay on the safe side and keep a minimum distance of 50 m.

Channels and fairways

The use of concrete channels and direct access to all ports and officially approved berths and moorings is also permitted in the aforementioned prohibited zones.

Anchoring

Anchoring for an overnight stay is prohibited in the national park. The nautical charts show harbours and designated anchorages.

Speed

The maximum speed in the entire national park is 8 knots. It is limited to 12 or 16 knots along waterways with signage.

Model boats

Model boats are not allowed in the national park's Red and Green Zones.

Jet skiing, water skiing and parasailing

The use of jet skis (powered personal watercraft) and hovercraft as well as water skiing and parasailing are prohibited in the entire national park.
